Jeremiah 17:7-8 | Trusting God

This is from my Facebook Live from April 30, 2020

Hey friends! Thanks for joining me today.

Today, I will be reading from Jeremiah 17:7-8.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Let me ask you..

Do you dwell on problems?

Do you give in to worry?

Do you have a hard time giving up control?

Many of us are anxious about stuff we can not control. What if you traded your anxious thoughts and put your hope and confidence in God?  Let me tell you, it is a daily surrender for me…

Jeremiah gives us a beautiful picture of what our faith can look like when we let our faith grow deep like the roots of trees beside a riverbank.

  • Are you a well-watered tree along the riverbank?
  • Do you have deep roots?

Your deep roots will help you sustain during the hard times – the strength you have by growing your deep roots will help you when trials come your way.

Trusting God in all things is a life long discipline – I hope you will continue trusting God in these hard times.

Will you pray with me?

Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for allowing us to grow our roots deep alongside the riverbank. Thank you for giving us strength to endure the trials of this world

Today, I pray you will be with everyone who is listening to the sound of my voice. I pray you will wrap your arms around them. I pray you will hold them close and allow them to feel your presence.

Lord, we lift up these requests to you today..

  • I pray for our state and national leaders as they work on a plan on getting people back to work and our economy going. I pray for all those who
  • I pray for those who are on the front lines: first responders, doctors and nurses, people responsible for cleaning the hospitals and nursing home facilities.
  • I pray for all those who have lost jobs
  • I pray for family members experiencing health crises right now.

Oh Father, thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today!

Have a blessed day!

1 Peter 1:6-7 | Trials

This is from my Facebook Live from April 28, 2020

Hey friends! Thanks for joining me today. It’s wonderful to be with you. I am thankful for another beautiful spring day here in the midwest!

The passage I will be reading is from 1 Peter 1:6-7.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

1 Peter 1:6-7

I’ve had this particular Bible for 5 years. I have these verses highlighted and the dates when we were facing some trials around my husband’s employment when we moved to Ohio.  Yes. We walked through some trials for awhile… Yes.. our faith was tested. Yes. God refined us and brought us through those trials. I’m not saying it was easy, but I will tell you it did strengthen us!

Yesterday, I shared about how God has a destiny – a customized life calling He has equipped us for.  Oftentimes, God takes us on a detour from where we are to where He wants us to go.  Trials can be a part of those detours and aren’t necessarily bad – God uses our pain to grow us. He uses our pain to develop us into the person He desires us to be.

As it says in 1 Peter, there will be JOY ahead, even though we will endure many trials “for a while” – we will get through it!  We don’t know why God has called us to walk through this crisis, but He promises to be right beside us.

I want to encourage you today to spend time thanking God for walking with you through your trials. Another verse I love that talks about God being with us found in Isaiah 43:2.

“When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.”

Isaiah 43:2 NLT

God is with us! Think about the amazing God story He is writing for you during this time!

Will you pray with me?

Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for walking with us through our trials. Thank you for refining us. OH, Lord, I look forward to the wonderful joy we have ahead!

I pray for everyone who is listening to the sound of my voice. I pray they will seek the purpose you have for them. God, draw them to you. Guide them and protect them.

Oh Lord,

  • I pray for our state and national leaders as they work on a plan on getting people back to work and our economy going.
  • I pray for friends who have lost loved ones, please comfort them.
  • I pray for our loved ones who are ill. Lord, touch their bodies.
  • I pray for all those who Are on the front lines: first responders, doctors and nurses, people responsible for cleaning the hospitals and nursing home facilities.
  • For those who have lost jobs – don’t let them lose hope.

Oh Father, thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope you have an amazing rest of your day!

Psalm 139:13-14 | You have a purpose!

This is from my Facebook Live on April 27, 2020

Hey friends! Thanks for joining me today.

I am thankful for a beautiful spring day here in the midwest! The sun is shining and the birds are singing!

I’ve been reading Detours, The Unpredictable Path to Your Destiny by Dr. Tony Evans.  Dr. Evans uses the book to share biblical principles of how God will often take you from where you are now to where HE wants you to go.

If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading Psalm 139:13-14 from the New Living Translation.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

Psalm 139:13-14 NLT

As I read these verses, I feel so blessed to know that the God of the universe knit me together in my mother’s womb. He knew all about me and you before you were born! He made you wonderfully complex and created you for a purpose!

“Destiny is the customized life calling for which God has equipped and ordained us, in order to bring HIM the greatest glory and maximum expansion of His kingdom.”

Dr. Tony Evans, Detour

God uses the detours in our lives to lead us to the destiny he has for us. He uses seasons like this pandemic to grow and develop us. I know it hurts, but trust me on this…. God will use the pain to refine us into the person we are becoming through the process.

Here’s the secret… You must surrender to the will of the Father. The quicker you surrender to what God has for you, he will lead you towards your destiny.

Another verse that speaks about our uniqueness is Ephesians 2:10.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Today, I want to encourage you to think about this time as a possible detour. What could God be doing in you as you are going through this pandemic?

I pray you will spend some time today reflecting on your uniqueness and how God has a plan and a purpose for your life!

Will you pray with me?

Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for making us wonderfully complex! Thank you for creating us for purpose.

You are loved!

Psalm 100

This is from my Facebook Live on April 24

Hi Friends! I am SO thankful for a beautiful spring day here in the midwest!

As I was praying and thinking about what to share today. The Lord directed me to end this week with Psalm 100 – the Psalm of Thanksgiving. If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
 For the Lord is good.
    His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Psalm 100 NLT

Friends, We live in a world right now with so much uncertainity.  Many of you are living in the middle of a storm. This may be the first time you have had to face pain or hardship. I know that the enemy wants to keep you stuck and feeling down and I know the last thing on your mind may be to praise God in the middle of your storm.

However, I believe thankfulness keeps us connected to God in the middle of our circumstances.  When we praise God in the middle of our storm, it shows God that you believe he will see you through it!

No matter what  you are experiencing today, God is with you. Remember, the Lord is good. His unfailing love and his faithfulness contiues to each generation!

Will you pray with me?

Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for the reminder to worship you with gladness and to come before you thanksgiving and praise!

Oh Lord, I pray for those listening to this message, I pray they will experience your peace today. I pray they will focus on giving thanks and praising you while they are in the middle of their storms.

God you are so faithful! Thank you for loving us. I pray for everyone who is fighting the Coronavirus right now. God bring healing to their bodies. Lord, bless the healthcare workers who are continuing to be on the front lines fighting this pandemic. Lord, I lift up all the unspoken requests we have on our hearts rightnow…

Thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today!

Now.. Go get your praise and worship on!

Have a blessed day!

Lamentations 3:22-24 | Great is Thy Faithfulness

This is from my April 23 Facebook Live

Today is April 23rd. I am a little sad. Prior to Coronavirus interrupting everything, I was to be on a plane flying down to visit our daughter. She is getting married in June. This weekend was to be her wedding shower. I was going to help her move into their new apartment and get settled. It’s ok. I know it will all work out. Right now, her wedding is scheduled for mid-June and the wedding venue anticipates everything will be back on schedule. I am thankful for God’s faithfulness.

I’ll be reading from Lamentations 3:22-24.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.  I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Lamentations 3:22-24 NLT

Our nation has been going through some very dark days these past two months.  Tragically, there have been thousands who have lost their lives and millions who have lost jobs. Nearly everyone in our country has been affected somehow.

The whole book of Lamentations is a lament – a passionate expression of grief or sorrow. Jeremiah was in a very dark place when he wrote the book of Lamentations. He was grieving because of the destruction of Jerusalem and the devastation of his nation.

In chapter 3, Jeremiah turns a corner – He sees a ray of hope. He sees that even in the midst of sin and suffering surrounding him, that God’s love never ends and that the Lord’s mercy was new every day. Jeremiah knew that God would keep his promise of restoration and blessing.

We can have hope in the midst of this pandemic just as Jeremiah had hope in the midst of his affliction. We can trust in God’s faithfulness each day.

Did you know the hymn “Great is thy Faithfulness” was written from
Lamentations 3:23. I don’t sing, but I thought I would read through the lyrics….

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee,
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above;
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

Great is Thy Faithfulness by Thomas Chisholm (Public Domain)

I have so many memories of singing this hymn over the years – It is one of my favorites!

Thanks for hanging out with me today! I’ll close in prayer…

Will you pray with me?

Oh precious Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for your faithfulness and your new mercy day by day. God, I pray you will bless my friends and family who are watching today. I pray they will see how your faithful love endures forever!

Oh Lord, bless our nation. Bless the leaders who will be unfolding the reopening plans. Bless each healthcare worker, first responder, nursing home caregivers.

Bless all the pastors who are navigating what their new normal will be for their congregations.

Oh Father, thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today!

I hope you know that you are loved!

Matthew 11:28-29 | Come to Me

This is from my April 22, 2020 Facebook Live Post

The passage I will be reading is from Matthew 11:28-29.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Matthew 11:28-29

Whenever I hear “Find rest for your weary souls…” I just want to sit with my eyes closed and take a couple of deep breaths. I am so thankful God gives us rest for our weary souls.

I would venture to say that we are all carrying some heavy burdens right now.

You may be a parent of a school-age child and you just found out your child will be continuing E-learning for the rest of the school year.

You may be a parent or grandparent of a high school senior who will not experience their end of year banquets and graduation ceremony.

You may be someone who has lost a loved one these past few weeks from Covid19.

You may be someone experiencing anxiety – wondering if you are going to have enough money to pay your bills.

I am so sorry you are going through all of this.

When I read the words, “Come to me…” I picture God opening his arms wide open and saying “come here… let me take those burdens, let me take all those stresses. Please come… let me give you rest.

Friends, you were not meant to carry these burdens alone. God is waiting for you to give it all to Him so He will give you rest in the middle of the mess!

There’s one more scripture I want to share with you…. it’s found in  2 Corinthians 4:8-9 it says We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.”

Remember, God is with you. He will never abandon you!!

Will you pray with me?

Oh precious Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for Word and for your encouragement each day.

Today, I pray you will be with everyone who is listening to the sound of my voice. I pray you will wrap your arms around them. I pray you will hold them close and allow them to feel your presence. Oh Lord,

  • I pray for friends who have lost loved ones, hold them close, Dear Lord.
  • Health care professionals and scientists who are diligently working on a vaccine for this virus.
  • I pray for all those who Are on the front lines: first responders, doctors and nurses, people responsible for cleaning the hospitals and nursing home facilities.
  • For those who have lost jobs
  • I pray for wisdom for our state and national leaders as they continue to work together to re-open our country.

Oh Father, thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today!

I hope you know that you are loved!

Have a blessed day!

Romans 15:4-5 | Patience

This is from my April 20, 2020 Facebook Live Post

I think we are entering into week 5 or 6 of our stay at home orders. I know we are all a little wary of staying in, but I feel we have to be patient and trust God’s plan.

Today I thought it would be fitting to talk about PATIENCE.  The passage I will be reading is from Romans 15:4-5.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.”

Romans 15:4-5

What is patience? The dictionary defines it as “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.”

Waiting and having patience during seasons like this pandemic is VERY hard. Honestly, patience is probably the Fruit of the spirit I struggle with the most. I love how Katherine J Butler describes patience; “Patience is an active  choice to gracefully wait for something to unfold.”

I know many of you are frustrated with your current situation. Most of you are with your family 24/7 and you would love to get away for an hour to have coffee with a friend or go on a date with your spouse.

Hang in there. This too shall pass. God will get us through this! He is working all things together. God is using this time to grow us in our faith and in our patient endurance!

Will you pray with me?

Oh precious Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us this day. Thank you for being a God who gives us patience and provides encouragement along the way.

Today, I pray you will be with everyone who is listening to the sound of my voice. I pray you will wrap your arms around them. I pray you will hold them close and allow them to feel your presence.

Oh Lord,

  • I pray for friends who have lost loved ones, hold them close, Dear Lord.
  • I pray for Health care professionals and scientists who are diligently working on a vaccine for this virus.
  • I pray for all those who are on the front lines: first responders, doctors and nurses, people responsible for cleaning the hospitals and nursing home facilities.
  • For everyone who has lost jobs
  • I pray for our state and national leaders as they work on a plan on getting people back to work and our economy going.
  • I pray for family members experiencing health crises right now. I especially want to lift up my mother in law and my uncle Mike. Lord, you know their needs. I trust you will provide.

Oh Father, thank you for the privilege to come to you in prayer. We ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks for joining me today!

I hope you know that you are loved!

Have a blessed day!

Psalm 103:17-18| Faithfulness

Screenshot from my April 17 Facebook Live Post

This is from my April 17, 2020 Facebook Live Post

Today we are going to talk about faithfulness.   The passage I will be reading is from is Psalm 103:17-18.  If you have your Bibles, read along with me. I’m reading from the New Living Translation.

“But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!”

Psalm 103:17-18 NLT

One of the most challenging tests the Lord may give to you is to trust in his faithfulness during difficult times.

As I was reflecting on this verse, it reminded me of when Kevin and I had only been married a month when he lost his job. One morning, we turned on the TV to check the traffic. There was a news reporter talking about a huge fire south of town. When we realized it was Kevin’s workplace, we stood in disbelief.

Twelve years later, I was a stay at home mom with two young children, when Kevin was downsized after ten years at a “steady” job. Again, we stood in disbelief.

During these lay-offs, we had our struggles. Sometimes we were gripped with financial stress. Other times with emotional stress. Much like many of you are experiencing during this pandemic.

I will tell you that while it wasn’t always easy, our faith was strengthened. We continued to seek God in ALL things. Through our challenges, we learned how to discover peace in knowing God was in control and He was Faithful.

I hope I can encourage someone today… It will be ok. You will get through this!

The song that I have had on repeat this week is “The Blessing” by Kari Jobe and Elevation Worship. (I’ll share the song on my page when we are finished.) It moves me to tears every time I listen to it. May it be a declaration over you today.

Rather than praying over different requests – I would love to speak this blessing over you today…

May The Lord bless you
And protect you
May the Lord smile on you
And be gracious to you

May the Lord show you his favor
And give you his peace…”

Numbers 6:24-26

Blessings, everyone!

Perseverance – Part 2

In my last blog post, I shared a story of perseverance when I recently climbed Piestewa Peak in Arizona. If you haven’t read it, you may want to go back and read it here before continuing.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT

We all have mountains to face. Here are 3 things I would encourage you to do as you face your mountain;

Bring others around you for encouragement

Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith…”

My friend and I would have not finished this hike if it were not for my son’s encouragement.
● The sun was hot.
● The incline was steep.
● The terrain was rocky!

We would hike for 10 minutes and then stop for a break. Each time, Garrett would say, “Ok”. He would give us time to rest. When a few minutes passed, he would patiently say, “Are you ready to continue?” I would look way ahead and see people so high up the peak, I would become overwhelmed and thought that there was no way we were going to make it. But, little by little, with the encouragement of Garrett, we made it to the top!

Friends, some of you are in a tough spot now. Others have been there and can offer encouragement. Those who are strong can encourage the weak. Those who have been wounded can give hope to those with fresh wounds. Be encouraged by the huge crowd of witnesses that are with you. Those who have a testimony of God’s goodness can inspire those seeking deliverance. Be with believers so that you can finish the race well!

Eliminate the Weight

In Hebrews 12:1, we read, Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Now my friend and I may not have known what was coming, but my son did. He made sure we were prepared; we had our sunscreen, our water, and our snacks. If we would have set out on the hike without water or snacks, I doubt we would have finished. At the same time, we weren’t loaded down with unnecessary items like heavy coats or unnecessary things.

As the three of us were chatting on our way up, my friend shared about an assignment one of her professors had her do when she started working on her Nurse practitioner degree. The professor had the class do submit a paper on what they were going to do to adjust their time as they started their schooling.

She wrote about the book “The Little Engine that Could.” Do you remember the story? It’s about a train filled with toys and gifts for little boys and girls that breaks down before reaching the children. After asking several passing trains for help over the hill, a little blue train agrees to help the stranded toys. Even though she is small, the blue train tries her best to bring the toys to the children on the other side of the hill. The story is used to teach children the value of optimism and hard work.

While that story is inspirational, there is something hollow about optimism without Jesus. Sure we can say, “I think I can.” But it gives us a far greater hope to know we can endure in any situation and do everything through Christ who gives us strength. (Philippians 4:13) When we don’t have the Lord’s help, we can’t continue the race. We are limited to our own abilities. We are weighed down by our own limits.

As we continued to climb, I had to keep reminding myself that God will give me the strength to make it to the top. I continued to say to myself, “I think I can… I think I can… I knew I could not finish the climb without perseverance and the help of my son Garrett and my friend.

Let the Lord’s Joy Be Yours

Hebrews 12:2 says, “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Don’t you just love that Jesus overlooked the pain of the cross and the shame it produced and focused on the victory. His victory is ours, friends!

I am so thankful I didn’t see the VERY DIFFICULT warning sign before we started our hike. I probably would have said “You know.. I think we should find another trail and put our effort into something a little less challenging.”

I am so glad Jesus resisted a similar temptation when he prayed for relief in the Garden of Gethsemane.

When we thought we couldn’t make it up that trail, God proved himself. We needed to continue to put one foot in front of the other, God was with us each step of the way.

James 1:2-4 says; “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I am facing a new mountain myself. As some of you know, I stepped away from a career as a children’s pastor at the end of 2019. For seventeen years, I developed and lead teams who helped children and their families in their faith development. I loved my job! God asked me to step away from “what I know” and step into the “unknown.” While I don’t know exactly what God has in store for me, He has told me to encourage others in their spiritual walk—especially as we journey these unprecedented times. I am excited to see how God uses me in this next season!

Can you imagine what God would do for you if you were to ask Him to give you the courage and perseverance you need to climb your mountain? Do you believe God will provide for your needs? I know we are living in the middle of a global pandemic and some things are out of our control. I have to wonder what the invitation is in this season to face your mountain.

Trust me on this… God is with you. God hears you. He understands your heart. And God can make every challenge you face work for your good, your strengthening, and His glory.

Perseverance – Part One

Photo of my son and me at Piestewa Peak

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT

One of the many virtues I learned in seventeen years of children’s ministry is perseverance. Being a Children’s Pastor is not for the faint of heart!

I recently took a trip to Phoenix, Arizona with a childhood friend.  We went to a Christian conference. It was a chance for me to connect with my friend, hear some great Christian teaching and to see my son.

Before the conference, I took my friend on a hike around Fountain Hills. It’s near the church I served in Scottsdale. I loved hiking around the fountain when I was out there. It was a great start to our trip.

The Monday after the conference, my friend and I decided the first hike was so fun, we wanted to take another hike. I asked my son if he would join us. He was off on President’s day, so it was perfect timing.  We weren’t specific. We figured any old hike would do. Garrett mentioned that he had wanted to hike Piestewa Peak. I was ignorant, and said, ok.. Sounds good to me! Well… I had no idea what kind of hike it would be. I had done some hikes around the region when we lived out in Scottsdale, but I had no idea what I was in for!!

What I didn’t know… Is that Piestewa Peak is the second-highest point in the Phoenix Mountains, after Camelback Mountain, and the third-highest in the city of Phoenix. The trail climbs over 1,200 feet in 1.2 miles. Just over a mile sounds easy, right?  I went into this hike not expecting the challenges that I faced. When we finished the trail we saw this sign:

Honestly, I am so glad I didn’t see this sign until the end… the description of the trail said: Long rocky segments with possible drops and exposure. The surface had loose rock with continual unevenness and described the trail as a steep incline with some rock climbing. Rock climbing? My friend and I wanted a nice, leisurely hike. We’re moms with adult children! She’s a grandmother. What did my son talk us into???!!!

When my son was ten-years-old, we sent him to church camp. The boys’ cabin was in the woods and about a half-mile uphill hike from the rest of the camp. My son nicknamed the path to the cabin “The Trail of Tears.” I’m pretty sure he took us on the Piestewa Peak hike just to get back at me!

All of us have trials and sorrows, yet if we saw those obstacles ahead of us, would we really sign up for life’s hike? Much like what my friend and I faced on our hike, I don’t believe we would have taken the risk, much less step out in faith if we knew what we were in for.

So let me ask you, what are some of the mountains are you facing?

  • For some of us, it could a health crisis
  • For some of us, it could be a job loss
  • For some of us, it could be the loss of a loved one
  • For some of us, it could be that you are home-schooling your children during this pandemic

God wants to walk with you during this season. He wants you to continue to hike that mountain and face that mountain knowing He is with you.

Stay tuned for Perseverance, Part Two…
